This rock complex dating from the 2nd century BC is one of the most beautiful sites in Sri Lanka. You cannot miss the Golden Temple dominated by its imposing Golden Buddha. Take the stairs on the sides to reach the caves at the top of the hill. Inside you will find ancient wall paintings and numerous Buddha statues. You discover the oldest Buddha statue in Sri Lanka. On the road between Anuradhapura and Dambulla, stop at the Aukana<\/strong> site. This 5th century Buddha statue is carved from a single block of rock and is just over 10m high.<\/span><\/p>\n
