Located close to Haiti, in the heart of the Caribbean seas, the Dominican Republic is a gem with many sides. It is well known for its big resorts and hotels but there’s more to it.
The island offers lush forest, high mountains with many hiking trails and a rich creole culture. Santo Domingo, the capital, has kept a unique architectural and cultural vibe, in a mood that marries rhum, latino music and colonial past.
Partying is a way of life and the locals will make you enjoy it during your stay
The best time is from december to the end of september, the ‘dry’ season
It rarely rains, and the temperatures are comfortable. Special mention to the month of February to take part in the Santo Domingo carnival and its array of colourful costumes.
The average temperature is 25° all year round, and when it rains in the Caribbean, it does so for only a few minutes!
SAONA : the island, located at the extreme south west of the country is a tropical paradise of the Caribbean sea. Partly classified as a natural site (Del Este national park) Este) because a lot of migrating birds stay there, amongst virgin beaches. Enjoy dreamy landscapes, white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and coconut trees! Beware of the streams that may be strong.
SAMANA :
The area is dedicated to mass tourism. You will find there amazing beaches such as Las Galeras or Las Terrenas, but also a humpback whale observatory. You will also be able to enjoy the El Limon waterfalls, over 50 meters high, and take a swim in clear waters amongst the jungle
LAS GALERAS :
This little village is not yet open to mass tourism and is surrounded by lovely beaches. Playa Rincoln, Playa Colorada or the Playita are probably amongst the most gorgeous beaches of the Dominican Republic. Enjoy the bottom glass boats excursions to discover the seabeds
SANTO-DOMINGO
Why not start your journey by visiting the colonial area, worldwide UNESCO heritage The calle de las Damas, is a street more than 500 years old! You will also admire the Catedral Primada de America, first church of the New World. Then carry on with a visit to the Tres Ojos National park, a wonderful place where lakes and caves join a tropical flora, and clear waters.
In the evening, enjoy a romantic dinner in Atarazana street and dance the night away in one of the clubs of Malecon, the very lively waterfront.
PUERTO PLATA
Puerto Plata is mainly famous for its 100km seashore, offering ideal spots for sunbathing and swimming. The town also hosts many Victorian style houses from the 19th century, first relics of the European colonies.de la première colonie européenne en Amérique. You will also discover many amber quarries. At the Mercado Nuevo, the local market, you will be able to purchase handcrafted souvenirs, and also visit the famous Brugal rum factory. If you are travelling with your children, visit the Ocean World Adventure Park to enjoy swimming the dolphins, sea lions shows, rides and much more
PUNTA CANA :
It is the most touristic area of the country and you must visit it! It is host to many resorts and long white sandy beaches. You won’t get bored for a minute while you enjoy water sports, restaurants, shops, bars, nightclubs and more
