Travel safely to the Dominican
The Dominican Republic wants to reassure worried travelers about the possible costs of consultation and hospitalization.
This is another boost for the industry. The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism is extending the medical coverage program offered to tourists arriving by plane and staying in a hotel until April 30, 2021.
This free insurance was initially scheduled to end on January 1, 2021. All medical emergencies are thus covered, especially in the event of contamination with Covid-19, a statement said.
Hospital costs are usually high. According to the French Embassy in Santo Domingo, “it is not uncommon for the bill to be equivalent to several thousand euros per day spent in care”.
No PCR test
The new president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, announced last summer a plan to revive international tourism.
As a reminder, travelers to the Dominican Republic do not need to present a negative PCR test. Upon arrival, 3% to 10% of passengers are required to undergo a rapid and random breath test, according to the Quai d’Orsay. Ditto for those who present symptoms. In addition, the body temperature of all passengers is checked.
The Dominican Republic is the second long-haul destination in Europe.
We invites you to visit the 3 essential places of this wonderful country:
Santo Domingo, Punta Cana & Samana Island
SAINT-DOMINGUE
Capital of the island and stronghold of the Columbus family, Santo Domingo is one of the biggest centers of interest in the Dominican Republic. Its colonial district, classified by UNESCO, is home to lively alleys and superb monuments, including the oldest cathedral in the New World. It is also the ideal place to immerse yourself in local life and witness daily scenes of the Dominicans. In short, a city where it is good to live and meet beautiful people.
PUNTA CANA
Paradise on Earth. This is what one could easily sum up Punta Cana by discovering this incredible seaside resort for the first time. Because beyond its certainly sumptuous beaches, the city is also home to various sites of interest, including deep underwater caves, magnificent corals as well as internationally renowned golf courses … Add to that a frenzied nightlife and we get the perfect cocktail for an exotic and lively holiday.
Unmissable in the Dominican Republic, it is therefore no coincidence that Punta Cana is today the number 1 vacation destination in the Dominican Republic. It’s impossible to get bored here as the possibilities for activities are numerous: swimming with nurse sharks and rays, hiking in the surroundings, sailing or kayaking in the lagoon, diving in the caves, shopping, golf, swimming, lazing around … Something to satisfy all desires!
THE SAMANA PENINSULA
Preserved from mass tourism, the Samana peninsula is a real favorite for all travelers who linger there. It is here that you can discover the most beautiful beaches of the island, as well as the magnificent Los Haitises National Park. Nature lovers, you will discover incredible caves, tropical forests, waterfalls and mangroves, as well as a grandiose bay where humpback whales can be observed in winter. It is also here that we find Las Terrenas, “the French village” of the Dominican Republic.
