Day 2 : Private Athens Jewish Heritage Walking Tour
See the highlights of Ancient and Modern Athens and learn about the important historical influence the Greek Jews had on the Byzantine Empire and throughout the period of Ottoman Greece before World War II and its devastating Holocaust. Your well-paced private walking tour begins with a visit to the Jewish museum (1977), where you will discover more about past Greek Jewish communities and their unique customs through a collection of over 8,000 rare books and publications, textiles, jewelry, domestic and religious artifacts, all showcasing their domestic and religious life.
Continue your narrated tour with a pleasant stroll through the narrow streets of Plaka passing the Ancient Agora, known for its notable monuments, before reaching the bustling Monastiraki Square, where the Church of the Pantanassa is located. Finally, visit the Etz-Hayyim (1904) and the Beth Shalom Sephardic (1935) synagogues both facing each other in the area of Thission.

You will also discover the Orthodox Cathedral of Chania, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks situated in front of the Plateia Mitropoleos and the Roman Catholic Cathedral, which was built in 1879 and has a charming courtyard with a statue of St. Francis of Assisi erected in the center. Additionally, your expert local guide will take you to the Etz Hayyim Synagogue remains of the once Jewish community and the Turkish quarters behind the inner harbor, where there are some interesting churches to discover. Day 6: Private Knossos & Heraklion Discovery
This full-day tour will let you explore the ruins of the magnificent Minoan palace of Knossos and the nearby city of Heraklion. Perched on the Kephala hill, Minoan Palace of Knossos is one of the most renowned archaeological sites in Greece filled with myths and legends. Your English-speaking guide will offer an insight into the mightly Minoan civilization, guide you through the labyrinths and talk about the archaeological excavations that have been conducted there and describe in detail the numerous restorations and construction the palace has undergone as a result of the island’s devastating earthquakes.
