Let’s start with what is important to us, the Israelis.
Sri Lanka is one of the few countries in the world that has supported Israel since October 7, and still today, is one of our rare supporters at the United Nations. This support is expressed in the compassion of the people of Sri Lanka towards us, out of an understanding of difficult situations and wars, and a sincere effort to enable us to experience a peaceful and relaxing stay.
85% of the Sri Lankan population is Buddhist, 7% Muslim, and you can speak Hebrew on the streets of Colombo safely, without fear. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country, with breathtaking landscapes, beaches that remind of paradise, spectacular nature, wild animals, natural parks, safaris, and Sri Lankan gastronomy which is a clever combination of Indian and Asian cuisine (pure bliss). The rich culture of Sri Lanka and the hospitable population that loves Israel and the Israelis create an unforgettable travel experience. When comparing Thailand and Sri Lanka, although both cultures are Buddhist, the attitude towards women in Sri Lanka is much more respectful than in Thailand. While in Thailand prostitution (including minors) is a common phenomenon, in Sri Lanka women and children are respected. Thailand is much more “touristy”, with many concrete buildings, and the well-known islands in Thailand have become crowded tourist centers. Too many people, too many Westerners, and too much prostitution – in the end, the local experience disappears completely.
In conclusion: I fly to Thailand or Sri Lanka?
If you are looking for a change of scenery, wild nature, wonderful food, heavenly beaches, and hospitable local population – Sri Lanka is the most suitable choice. The country offers a spectacular combination of breathtaking nature, rich culture, and surprising modernity.
Sri Lanka is a developed country in terms of infrastructure and even technology, and you will be surprised by its modernity, its luxurious shopping centers, and its gourmet restaurants at low prices. Sri Lanka is one of the recommended countries to visit, for all these reasons and many more that we will discuss in your next conversation.
